The present Garden has a planned three-year lifespan. In 2011 it is intended that the site will be revised to become a permanent garden for use by local people, travellers on the new Docklands Light Railway nearby, and those attending the 2012 Olympic Games. The artists Karen Guthrie & Nina Pope have drafted a design for this permanent garden but will review What Will the Harvest Be? before this is finalised: it is hoped a considerable area for vegetable and flower cultivation will be included as well as exemplary architecture for community use and ecologically-sustainable technologies for energy and water.
