Artichoke "Purple Globe" (Cynara scolymus)

Vegetable - Edible?: Edible

These were grown from seeds from the organic garden catalogue - "Thistle like plants, 90-150cm tall, grown for their edible flower buds. A very attractive variation to the traditional green variety, with excellent flavour."

These survived being accidentally weeded out by Louis and Dasha - mistake realised they were rapidly re-planted and most recovered!

I grew these from seed (rather than splitting existing plants) and as a result we have quite wildly different plants. One is already producing (Early May) and others have very diverse foliage.

Now they have actual artichokes on we can see that not all of them can be described as 'purple globes' either!
